signing out

Where to begin… I’m signing out of the blog for a little while; I need to take some time away from it to re-evaluate how we feel about each other. I’ve been finding the whole process of maintaining interesting posts something of a struggle lately and rather than continue on without my usual enthusiasm, which may result in some lacklustre output, I think it’s best if we take a break. Not a break up though, no no no, I’m not ready for that kind of finality! Blame it on the pregnancy if you will, blame it on needing some more me time in my life, there’s probably lots of things I could blame it on but that’s not important, what is important is that I will still be working away on the re:new store, listing new pieces of vintage for you to love each and every week. And I’ll be doing mah thing on instagram (@brookerenew), Facebook and Twitter as normal. This is not total abandonment, honest!

First purchase of 2012… a pair of black leather vintage moccasins. Can’t wait til they arrive and desperately hoping that they actually fit!

flailing and untangling

Some wonderful friends of mine in London got me an asos gift voucher for my birthday which I used to treat myself to this House of Harlow leather cuff. Shame my wrists are too tiny and it almost falls off and knocks out whoever I’m passing every time I flail my arms around. Which, as you can imagine, is all the time!!?!
Actually, when I’m wearing this knit my day needs to involve minimal flailing otherwise I spend all my time untangling myself from my bag, my jewellery, my front doorknob, my seatbelt, my baby, those little teeth things on the cling film boxes… as if I have this kind of time in my day to spare!

It’s no secret I’m all about easy comfy pieces and this shirt is so freaking breezy and light it’s not funny; I’d wear it every day if I could, although it creases like a mo fo everytime I so much as look at it! It arrived the same week as these boots; I think they were made for each other. I kicked myself for missing out on the ‘Ashish for Topshop’ leopard wedges when I first saw them in 2009 so I wasn’t making the same mistake again when I saw these. And they’re comfortable. Seriously! For a 4.5” heel I could walk in them all day, I kid you not.

So I may have jinxed the weather by continually saying how perfect it was, because it was fairly gloomy today. Thought I could get away with a lace jacket… wrong! False start on spring was last week. But I have to say I love this lacy fringy cardi-thing from Sportsgirl. Found it on sale, which makes me love it even more! Absolutely no warmth in it whatsoever though and all I ever really want to do is pair it with some denim shorts and go all festival like!

For those of you who always ask; I’ll be at Dear Pluto’s Garden Markets again this month, the 28^th to be exact.

breezy batwing

So, I bought this beautiful knit top from Crux & Crow at the same time as this skirt… The skirt I can wear easy, the top I’m having a little trouble with. I can’t seem to make it look right. It has these amazing batwing sleeves that I adore but it means I can’t wear it under anything, which I think is the problem at the moment because it’s too cold to be wearing a breezy jumper! And I don’t think it looks good with a black long sleeve top underneath.

Help me, I’m not a patient woman, I don’t want to wait until the spring, anyone got any styling suggestions?

Yay for the cooling temps… every year I kind of berate myself for enjoying the beginnings of winter because I hate being cold, but I embrace the opportunity to wear more layers. This One Teaspoon jumper is pretty much what I plan to live in over winter.

When I was a kid I would be so thrilled with my new shoes that I’d wear them to bed. In fact there is a rather embarrassing video of me when I was about 6 years old, still in my pyjamas, grinning like a maniac and swinging my feet around with brand new sandals whipping through the air. I’d like to say my immediate attachment to new shoes has since diminished… but I can’t. Although, luckily for Neil, I do manage to refrain myself from wearing them to bed!

Like I said last time I took photos at my parents place; me and nature, we don’t get along. I hold her in very high regard and admire her beauty but when we join forces I always come out needing a Band-Aid. Not that walking down the road is ‘joining forces’ with nature, but when I sat on the curb for these photos a bull ant bit me on the arse and I spent an hour afterwards sitting on an icepack.

Neil and I snapped these pics a couple of days ago when the weather wasn’t quite as fiery as it is now. I quite like the complete bagginess of the arms on this cardigan, kinda makes me feel a bit bag lady the way it just hangs off me and swallows my hands! Plus I like the cute hood!

So I’m in QLD now, dodging the sun because it’s about a trillion degrees and I only like a faux tan. NYE celebrations this year involve Neil, Paige, a hotel room picnic and a sneaky bottle of champagne; baby’s don’t equal midnight parties unfortunately.

10 days

Crazy, it’s been 10 days already!

I’ve been dying to wear out the sneaky purchases I made while pregnant, none of which have ever actually been tried on before now. Online shopping is a dangerous thing when you’re waiting for a baby to arrive!

Today I’m a failed baker; turns out if you forget to put a ¼ cup of milk into your cupcake mixture like the recipe says they’ll crumble away in your hands!
Happily my Asos parcel arrived to quickly save the day and distract me from the rejected crying coming from the bin.

sneaky sneaky

Isn’t it great when someone you love secretly plots behind your back on something they know will make you happy? When I was on the Gold Coast a few weeks ago I visited Beth in her store, My Little Frock Shop, and asked her to put aside the StyleStalker Swell top for me when it arrives, I want I want. Then, on Saturday Neil surprised me with a beautifully wrapped little present containing just the top I want I want, advising me that he had been emailing Beth with strict instructions not to tell me when it had arrived!
I’ve said it a million times before; he’s a good egg he is.







Also this weekend, a bit of a splurge spend was had on this little Flip video camera, simply to indulge my every recording whim when the Bubble arrives and to keep the international and interstate members of the family bombarded with cuteness. And while I am one of those overly self-conscious persons when it comes to being in front of the camera, any kind of camera, I am going to attempt to make a video for the blog at some point soon as well. Of what I don’t know but hey, who cares as long as it’s fun!
